Job hunting when you are unemployed doesn’t always net you a position immediately. In fact, it can take a while to find a job. The longer that you are unemployed, the larger your resume gap becomes. businessman-jumping-gapDon’t let that resume gap prevent you from finding the right job.

Find a non-profit organization and spend your free time volunteering. You can work at creating the organization’s newsletters, helping to write grants, coordinating different fundraising events and more. Not only will this provide you with valuable experience and possible connections, it will look especially good on your resume.

If you are having trouble finding paid employment, consider becoming an intern. Internships are often only part time and unpaid to boot, but you will get more back from your experience than just money. Internships can provide:

  • Important experience
  • Learn new skills
  • Make important connections
  • Boost your resume
  • A potential job offer with that company

Another option is to go back to school and take a few classes or get a degree that relate to your job skills. This will make a nice addition to your resume.
